A Christmas Catch-up! Revlon's Emerald City.

Merry Christmas and hope you all have a Happy New Year! Are you all stuffed from Christmas eatings? What a name: Waikiki by Barry M.

Matte as an effect has always be a 'meh', never really catching any attention in the nail polish stash seeing as it never really appeared to make a truly different effect on the nails. Yet when the beloved Barry M released some bold and bright matte polishes, they were picked up on the radar. Even purchased and given a go:

 

 

Going out on the town material: Rose Chic by Maybelline Colour Show

There's always those evenings that you are going out celebrating with friends and family - an occasion. When you've got painted nails but they just don't quite cut it for the event. Here's the polish to fill that gap, it's relatively new release and it's amazing for the amount of effort put in for the result that you receive. This little polish is called Rose Chic from the collection Crystallize by Maybelline Colour Show:  

New Barry M Matte Polishes: Available Now?!?

Now please tell me if I'm being completely ridiculous and these polishes have already been around for a while! But these may be new polishes that you can already buy...

These are lovely polishes which Barry M announced on Instagram that they would be releasing in July. They are part of the Matte Collection in new summer bright and bold colours - which I cannot wait to try. However then this appeared in my Blogger newsfeed:

Which came as a shock seeing as I've recently been looking for a Matte topcoat with no luck, it seems The Polish List had found some that was Barry M! In addition to some more Matte nail polishes - all swatched and reviewed perfectly. And with a link to Boots where they can be purchased:

So I am thinking you are able to buy new collection nail polishes (that Barry M released information about on Instagram) from the Boots website earlier than release? They are called: Waikiki Green, Miami Pink, Malibu Blue, Rhossili Purple, Cancun Turquoise and Copacabana Red. Or am I crazy!?

Another Sugar Coat makes an appearence!

Now there was a little series a week or two ago, seeing as a splurge was made in Poundland regarding the Sugar Coat collection by the brilliant Sally Hansen and other little bits. However the whole collection wasn't purchased seeing as they weren't all there which was a little disappointing as Bubble Plum, Cotton Candies and Razzle-Berry weren't there. Which has meant yet another excuse to pop in and see if they had restocked, last time they had which meant another nail polish purchase... oops!

Razzle-Berry was swiped off the shelf as soon as it was seen, it's a bright blue but it's not light shade. It's a little darker than normal. Obviously it has the same textured effect as the rest of the collection which is certainly growing on me so much so there may be some other brands with this effect appearing soon... Let's get onto the swatching!

Given into the hype... Barry M Silk!

Now there was quite a lot of excitement about the new release of polishes by Barry M, which do have a brilliant reputation for nail polishes. So there have been quite a few swatches and reviews around the time of the release, I read a lovely review by a blogger who'd received them early however silly me didn't realise that so went out to buy them and they weren't there.... Oops! However I haven't purchased one up until now which shows actually how interested I was in them. But that defiantly doesn't mean that they aren't as brilliant as other Barry M's....

When choosing, I wasn't drawn to the pink or purple and didn't like the look of the brown. Therefore it was a choice between green and blue. The green eventually won seeing as the stash already has a lot of blue so it was green for a change. But I would say that this isn't a typical green colour. It's metallic and it's appears to be a combination of silver and green in the bottle. Let's see it on the nails.

Vanilla - Yum Yum.

Yet another lovely Barry M nail varnish that has been hidden away in the growing nail polish collection and it hasn't been shown to the lovely nail polish blog that I currently have going... As I follow many lovely bloggers myself, I realise that this particular matte nail varnish is quite popular. (reapplying it for this little post has made me realise this fact also.

Matte is a fairly new thing to the nail varnish collection - being the first matte that I own and it was bought as a present for my birthday as it's a light, nude colour. (Currently working means that the only nail varnish I am allowed is light pinks or colours matching my skin - a new nail polish was needed seeing as I am addicted to bright colours which aren't allowed...) Therefore being matte isn't the only new thing, the light colour is new too in comparison to the other nail varnish I am in possession of.

It's ever so weird doing matte nail polish as they don't shimmer in the lighting, ensuring the colours are exactly the same as they actually are! Vanilla is really really similar to skin colour as it's slightly pink in a light brown, making it a must if you need a nude colour for work. The matte effect was also be a plus for this use of the nail varnish as it doesn't stand out as much as a gloss polish would. First layer has coverage all over and there weren't any streaks visible to the eye.

Applying the second coat is a bit of an unusual sensation seeing as you're expecting it to be gloss and therefore apply like a gloss polish, but it doesn't which takes getting used to in order to get the best result of the nail polish. Application of Vanilla was perfectly fine as there weren't any glops or areas that were grainy. (which you'd expect from a matte) I haven't worn this manicure yet but I am negatively guessing that it'll chip easily in comparison to others seeing as you can't really apply a top coat as it's gloss therefore ruining the matte effect... Wait and see for the results!

Youtube discovery: Part One

The wonders and discoveries that you can make on Youtube are brilliant, it's brilliance has helped me discover the lovely nail polish brand called Sinful Colors. Before Youtube (was there ever life before Youtube? Just Kidding!) I thought that the brand Sinful Colors was the cheap and not very colours that would probably stain brand as they are very inexpensive. But yesterday when I was surfing the internet, I discovered reviews of this lovely brand saying how good it is in America! Therefore I had to try them, here is part one of the Sinful Colors review.

Also this will be the first time using the Insta-Dri Top Coat by Sally Hansen! The first colour from the Sinful Colors collection is ... Savage. Just to say there are going to be three parts to this theme of Sinful Colors seeing as they were all bought at the same time, it doesn't mean I wont buy any more either. And apologies in advance for the not very brilliant photographs there wasn't much good light today.

Actually applying this nail varnish was fabulous seeing as the brush itself was a really wide maxi brush or the normal thin brushes, it was halfway between the too which is perfect for my nails which aren't very wide - making it a lot easier to not get it on the rest of your fingers! Coverage was about 50/50 as some areas were really well covered (you could of left it at one coat on these nails) but others came out a little streaky meaning not very opaque. The only mistake I made was to pick up the bottle due to the name - it had a lot of supporters on Youtube but I didn't check whether it was gloss or matte. It's matte which I didn't really want but you can always apply a topcoat!

There's the second coat and another apology for the photographs of it - they aren't that brilliant are they!? Once the coverage of the nail varnish was sorted with a second coat, a top coat was added to make it gloss again.

 Overall there are no faults with this lovely nail varnish especially with it's very low price tag compared to others out there. The colour of Savage is brilliant, probably not very fitting with the season better in summer. But that's never affected me! Additionally the top coat was excellently quick once you get over the initial wave of impatience...
