Another installment: Barry M Speedy's Full Throttle

The first Barry M Speedy (Pit Stop) went down so well, there just had to be another one to review as I did have quite a splurge in town when I bought these polishes! So next up on the list is Full Throttle, which is a pastel orange colour. This was certainly an impulse decision as it's not a colour I normally go for. But I saw it and needed to have it, surprisingly I don't regret it even when bringing it home or wearing it. If you need evidence follow me...

Refreshing and Lemon-y: Revlon's Sorbet.

Hopefully your eyes are still intact after seeing this vibrant yellow and orange polish! Believe it or not, this polish on your nails will grow on you as I also was in the 'this colour can't work camp'. Yet here it is on the nails! This is yet another fabulous polish from Revlon's Colourstay collection, if only it was on the British high-street. It's called Sorbet which definitely reminds you of a lovely peach and passion fruit sorbet dessert. Want another scoop? Come through for more...

November's Polish Party: Autumn/Weather!

Today's post is a return of a favourite that's been rather neglected by Addicted To Nails... recently as other new and sparkly polishes have been placed above the needs of this little monthly link up... That's right, it's the Polish Party! This month's theme is Autumn and the Weather which was planned to be an excuse to try my stamping plate for the first time yet they weren't related at all. Therefore it's the last Barry M Autumn release polish that has not graced the little blog, follow through for more lovely photographs. 

Summer Throwback: Papaya by Barry M.

Technically you can call this a throwback as this colour wasn't worn in summer as it was purchased in September, yet it's been loved at the moment despite the fact it's a total summer colour. Maybe it's just because we're all wishing for summer to return? Definitely true in this case... Anyway onto yet more lovely polishes close ups:

Bright and textured: Candy Corn by Sally Hansen.

 

These polishes are such fun! Sugar Coat is a collection of texturized polishes so they appear to have a layer of sugar across them, making them very popular. Many other posts on this collection can be found here. Today's post is on the beauty called 260 Candy Corn which is a bright orange but not quite neon, let's see some more:

Appearance of another duotone: Mediterranean by Barry M

When this collection first appeared, the hype didn't really reach myself as duotones haven't gone down well in the past. However once this polish was swatched, I was completely converted to duotones as it really appear to be two colours at once as well as having a lot of staying power on the nails. The amazing collection which has converted the feelings towards duotones is Barry M's Aquarium collection. And today is going to feature another one of these lovely polishes:

Now it's a little different from the usual nail polish palette which are normally swatched but I promise you it's a great colour choice. It's called Mediterranean from Aquarium collection by Barry M, the duotone effect is between orange and a rose gold. (sort of - not really any other way to describe it!) It appears metallic orange in everyday light and then the rose gold appears when moving your hands and in brighter light. Shall we go ahead and see the swatches?

May's Polish Party: Splatter!

It's nearly the end of the month which means it's time for another Polish Party post, which is a brilliant thing to participate in! This month's theme is splatter which took more than one attempt at Addicted to Nails... to make. Creating splatter through using a straw was attempted however it never seem to come out very well - there was a lot of large dollops of nail polish. Therefore another design was created, first the base colour:

First Coral Polish: Instyle Coral by Rimmel

Good evening readers! Today's been a finish off posts to put up day which has gone quite well actually. Normally it's filled with procrastination. Do you have those days ever? Today's nails are a new thing due to the colour is relatively new to me as it appear when doing the GOT challenges. Here it is:

Pretty!? Coral is halfway between pink and orange, not really a spring colour more summer I'd say. But we are all wishing summer here so it's not that big a deal. As for the brand, it's Rimmel which has always done well, there's been no major disappointments so let's hope this isn't the first...

GOT Challenge: Coral



Today's GOT Challenge is Coral which was a little problem seeing as I wasn't really sure what this colour was. It's been floating around nail polish blogging but I wasn't sure if it was pink or orange, meaning I google searched it. It's a mixture of the two! That lead to a second problem seeing I don't own any of these colours, so the next best colour was chosen:

It's a polish from the pile of the great unused polishes and it's been around about a year so hopefully it qualifies for the challenge. The name is 460 Orange Couture by Maybelline Forever Strong Pro but still has a tiny hint of pink undertone despite the name saying otherwise. Here's the first coat...

GOT Challenge: Skittle

Now I've probably mentioned before that I have a current love of the sweets Skittles in any of their flavours, which made me very excited for this week's GOT challenge seeing as I am basing it on the sweets! It's only going to be a flying post but a very colourful one.

Each colour nail polish has been matched to a flavour, however the flavours cannot be named as these are the Confused? Skittles. The names and how old they are: 460 Orange Couture - Maybelline Forever Strong Pro (Unused), 325 Hot Gossip -Rimmel Lycra Pro (Kind of Golden Oldie), 303 Bright Purple - Barry M (Golden Oldie!), 50 In Record Lime - Sally Hansen Insta-Dry (Kind of Golden Oldie) and Unnamed Yellow - Miss Sporty (Golden Oldie!) So here's the end result:

Attack of the colour orange!

It's another one from the great untried this week, for which I apologise but's it's been a very hectic week for myself... So it's a review from the blogger vaults. It's probably apparent in the choice of nail polish colours, that the writer to this blog is a lover of bright and bold colours but today's choice is definitely a bold colour in it's own right. You'll need to close your eyes for protection as soon as you see it. Additionally sun glasses are needed in the application of the nail polish... Just kidding.



Now at this point it doesn't look that bright but wait until the photographs of the nail polish on the nails... This is Cloud 9 by Sinful Colors which would definitely go well with UFO by Sinful Colors however the nails would be radioactive in colour. Applying this nail polish was really easy and didn't have the normal dripping problem that other Sinful Colors nail polishes have. It was opaque within the first coat so much so that the photographs of the first coat didn't happen therefore there is only photographs of the second coat application. Get your eyes ready!

GOT Challenge: Dots

Here I am again with a new week's GOT challenge under the title of dots which was pretty hard to put together seeing as it's the use of old nail polishes and the idea was to create a rainbow of dots. However my collection doesn't hold many old bold colours, therefore I'll show you the oldies first and then the addition back up colours. Is that okay? Hopefully not breaking the rules as I've never been a 'rulebreaker' to be truthful.

Square photographs didn't really seem right and this is the best editing I can do to get close to circles so they are in their own little bubbles. Base colour was Cloudy Grey by Maybelline, the golden oldie polishes are Hibiscus by Natural Collection which is really old and a cheaper polish seeing as that's what pocket money would stretch to and an unknown named polish by Miss Sporty which doesn't have a tag as it was purchased at a car boot sale (Really really old!). Finally the additional colours are Bright Purple by Barry M, Orange Attack by Maybelline Colour Show and 296 Water Street Blue by NYC. Right let's get started with the base coat.

I am starting to like the bubbles of photographs, I promise I wont get too attached to them.  Oh! Before I forget the reason the base colour isn't white is due to the fact that my collection currently doesn't hold a white nail polish.There is a lot going on in this post today, edited photographs and a little movie. Don't get your hopes up too much though. Next stage then is adding the different dots therefore here's the film premiere...

UFO - Bright and Sparkly!

Hello readers! It's not a brilliant day today weather wise where I am sitting and typing this little post for you guys but the nail polish I have chosen to review today will certainly cheer you up or better put brighten you up. It's just such a bright colour and really stands out especially the nail polish which is the added effect, making your nails shine..

This is the base colour for my nails so that the lovely new glitter will be bold and stand out from other nails! The base colour is 440 Siren by Revlon which has been feature before on this blog... And the name is an indication of how bright it is, believe me! The application was brilliant seeing as it's quite opaque in it's first layer and easy to apply to the nails as the solution was correct consistency and the brush was simple therefore fine to use.

Still bright enough to blind the eyes?! These photographs show I need a slight improvement on my edges of nail lines as I have left a bit out - oops. Following adding the second coat, a top coat was added to strengthen the nail seeing as there going to be on the nails for a while. Then the fun starts as now is the applying of the orange glitter on top of the bright orange nail polish:

Doesn't it look fun and funky? The coloured glitter that has been added was a bargain at £1 from the £1 shop, it's UFO by Sinful Colors therefore it may be a discontinued line seeing as it's going cheap. But it's very very cool and a brilliant nail polish (if you can get your paws on it, then do so.)

Just couldn't resist!

When I received the striping brushes I made a promise that I'd wait until all the nail art stuff ordered had arrived so that they could be used at the same time. However that didn't happen as they were used in the first GOT challenge, so I said that I'd wait for the last two items to arrive together but yet again that didn't happen.... Dotting tools arrived today and my nails are now dotted and spotted!



These are the Dotting Tools that I ordered which I got from Amazon which came when they said they would and are brilliant so far (A little shorter than expected as I thought they'd be pencil length but there a tad shorter!) as it's totally easy to put dots on your nails on both hands which is a total plus seeing as one hand is normally not as good as the other. For the base, a darker colour was needed but not too dark that the other colours wouldn't show up so 381 Jade Green by Rimmel Pro was chosen.

For the dots, it really needed to be many different colours and in random places so that if it went wrong on the first attempt it wouldn't look too bad I decided. Therefore all the dots are made up of these colours:

Which are; Bright Purple - Barry M, Orange Attack. - Maybelline Colour Show, Savage - Sinful Colors and 325 Hot Gossip - Rimmel Pro. Do you think it's a good combo? Maybe should of added a bright yellow seeing as there are all the other main colours, oh well. Here are the results of the dotting and spotting.

Pretty pleased seeing as it's artist nails which have gone better than I thought they would, the next design I would like to do is like a sunset with dots which I have seen on Youtube by a lovely blogger but I cant remember them - oops and sorry! But overall these nails are really simple to but you do need dotting tools, however there are things you can use from around the house to create this effect such as pins so there's no major need to purchase the tools as I told myself when buying them....

Oops I did it again!

I managed to accidentally pop into a £1 shop and accidentally found some nice nail polishes, found my way to the till and accidentally paid for these lovely nail polishes. These £1 shops should give me a loyalty card as I am there so much and buying things especially nail polish, I am such a sucker for the fact that everything's only £1. They saw me coming.

The reason for them being only a £1 is that they are outdated seasonal colours or that the collection has been discontinued therefore these are going to be harder to find if they need replacing. These three nail polishes which were purchased are UFO by Sinful Colors which looks amazing it's bright orange glitter in many different sizes so I am buzzing to try that out! Next is yet another magnetic nail polish - I am obsessed at the moment called Red-y Response by Sally Hansen. It is the same pattern as Silver Elements which is already in the collection but the colour is fab and much red-er in colour than in the photograph. The final nail polish is another Sally Hansen which is 440 Pinch of Punch in the Xtreme Wear collection which I also love at the moment.
Now the next items I only realised they were there when a member of staff said that they were reduced to 25p each (I have yet to work out the reason why... I'll tell you if I find out.) but they just needed to be tried on the blog at that price!

They are Sally Hansen nail effects which are going to be amazing especially 360 All Laced Up to try out, the only downside I can see already is that they are for larger fingernails which I don't have so they are going to have to be downsize in some way. Any tips or tricks? Anyway for 25p each I think it's worth a shot and all of it will be shown on this little blog. I'll be back later on with the reviews and swatches, I just had to show someone the little splurge!

An attempt at a new year's resolution...

As promised earlier on in the week in my new year's resolutions, I am attempting to do some nail art! (Just to say this isn't my idea, I am starting off by following some ideas of Youtube. This is from MissJenFabulous!) Now before anyone gets too excited, it's not going to be hung in a gallery and really detailed because it's the first one in a hopefully long line of nail art posts. (That is a tad hopeful for me...) It's going to be really simple so that not only other people can do, so that I can do it well also.

The brighter the better, these aren't neon nail polishes just very bright colours. They were all purchased from a £1 shop so I am unsure if these are available in high street shops... They'd be easy to find on Amazon/Ebay or just use a different high street brand. The ones I am using are: 440 Siren, 560 Zealous, 185 Sweet Tart by Revlon and 50 In Record Time by Sally Hansen. First things first, all the nails were painted with one coat of each nail polish on different nails.

 

Like so. Two coats aren't really needed unless the nail polish hasn't covered the nail well enough - but if this happens I'd recommend using another nail polish seeing as the next step is painting on top of the first coat which won't get great effect if it's not opaque enough! Next thing to do was to paint over the top of the first coats in a different colour with three strokes of straight lines which are shorter than each other like this:

Just a reminder this is the first attempt so it isn't that brilliant at the moment but I promise the end result is quite good and different to the normal nail polish reviews. The next step is to do the same but with another colour or the same colour as the first coat in the same design a little bit further down the nail. This is what it should hopefully look like...

Rather bright and in your face design, I have to admit. Also good way to show off the really out there or cool colours together, cool combination would be black, red and gold which hopefully I'll be trying soon. But these colours were brilliant for the designs so I'd definitely recommend them and use them again.
